Cops charged for Chisel trip

A senior police constable has been charged with reckless driving over an incident in which three police officers allegedly sped to get Jimmy Barnes to Saturday’s concert at Sandalford Estate.
Concert organisers asked police to escort band members from the Busselton Airport to Sandalford Estate because they were running late for the event, which was due to start at 5pm.
The constable was allegedly travelling at more than 45km over the 80km limit on his motorbike when he was flashed by a speed camera near Carbunup River.
The two other South West officers, a constable and a sergeant, will be issued with traffic infringement notices. All three officers are also subject to disciplinary action.
In a media release today, police said the officers were approved to escort Cold Chisel because of pressures in the district from school leavers’ celebrations and the Margaret River fires but there was no authorisation for the officers to exceed the speed limit.
Cold Chisel band members were inside two marked police cars that were accompanied by a marked police motorcycle.
It will be alleged the marked police cars were travelling at 110kmh and 116kmh, and the police motorbike was travelling at 129kmh.
